Electricity and usable heat for all hours of the day
Azelio has developed an ingenious long-duration energy storage technology, TES.POD, that is revolutionary in providing electricity and usable heat for all hours of the day, with zero emissions and at a very competitive cost.
Azelio’s system charges with electricity from renewable sources such as solar PV and stores the energy as heat in recycled aluminium. The heat is dispatched from the storage on demand to a Stirling engine, supplying combined heat and power at a total efficiency of up to 90 %. The storage suffers no degradation in capacity over time.
The system is scalable and cost-efficient from 0.1 up to 100 MW, with a lifespan of 30 years. The system charges at 100 kW for 6 hours and discharges for 13 hours or longer depending on user demand. The scalability allows for customised installation size. As an example, a cluster of 20 TES.POD units provide 260 kW nominal electrical output with 3.3 MWh storage capacity and approximately 7.8 MWh of thermal energy output at 55-65 C, 130-150 F.
