With global emissions still off track to meet climate goals and the impacts of climate change intensifying, 2026 is an important year for turning climate commitments into action.
Against this backdrop, the LDES Council will join energy, climate, and business leaders at Climate Week NYC 2026 to discuss practical solutions for building a reliable, flexible, and clean energy system.
As the world looks ahead to COP31, the LDES Council will highlight the key role of long duration energy storage (LDES) in supporting renewable energy, meeting growing electricity demand, strengthening energy security, and building more resilient power systems.
Priority discussions will focus on:
- Accelerating renewable-powered electrification and building the infrastructure needed to meet growing electricity demand;
- Scaling long duration energy storage alongside renewable energy to improve grid flexibility, reliability, and resilience;
- Mobilising investment and financing solutions to help clean energy and storage projects move from plans to real-world deployment; and
- Strengthening power systems to support a rapidly electrifying world and ensure renewable energy can be delivered reliably when and where it is needed.
Throughout Climate Week NYC 2026, LDES Council CEO Julia Souder and Policy and Markets, North America Director Anna Siefken will take part in a series of high-level discussions and roundtables focused on renewable energy integration, electrification, grid optimisation, and the role of long-duration energy storage.
From exploring the future of renewable-powered electrification to leading a roundtable on renewable energy integration and storage, the LDES Council’s expertise will feature in conversations focused on turning clean energy ambition into practical, scalable action.
What to expect from the LDES Council at NYCW 2026
21 Sept – Global Renewables Summit: Delivering Electrify Now – High-Level Leaders Dialogue
Hosted by the Global Renewables Alliance, Fortescue and The Climate Group, this high-level dialogue will bring together heads of state, ministers, CEOs, investors, and international organisations to discuss how to accelerate renewable-powered electrification as part of the Electrify Now campaign.
The discussion will focus on the policies, investment, and partnerships needed to triple renewable energy capacity by 2030 and accelerate the transition to renewable powered electricity.
Julia Souder will join the summit and share the LDES Council’s perspective on how energy storage can support this transition.
22 Sept – Electrify NowRoundtable: From Political Momentum to Action
This Global Renewables Alliance roundtable will bring together leaders to discuss how growing political and business momentum around electrification can be translated into action.
The discussion will explore the policies, infrastructure, investment, and partnerships needed to accelerate renewable-powered electrification and build a more secure and resilient energy system.
Julia Souder will participate in the roundtable and contribute her expertise to the discussion.
22 Sept – Roundtable: Grid Optimisation for an Electrified Future
This Global Renewables Alliance roundtable will explore how power systems need to evolve as electricity demand and renewable energy generation continue to grow.
The discussion will focus on grid optimisation, flexibility, and the infrastructure needed to support a rapidly electrifying economy.
Julia Souder will contribute to the discussion, including on the role of long –duration energy storage in creating more flexible, reliable, and resilient power systems.
23 Sept – Sustainable Energy Catalyst: The Master Minds Roundtables
Hosted at Columbia University’s Engineering Innovation Hub and co-hosted by the Columbia Advanced Electrification Center and Event One Solutions International, the Master Minds Roundtables will bring together senior leaders and innovators from the energy, finance, industry, and policy sectors.
Julia Souder will lead the Renewable Energy Integration & Storage Roundtable, focusing on the challenges and opportunities of integrating renewable energy at scale and the role of energy storage in building a more flexible, reliable, and resilient energy system.
The LDES Council looks forward to joining partners, policymakers, businesses, and energy leaders across Climate Week NYC 2026 to advance practical solutions that can accelerate the clean energy transition and build a more reliable, flexible, and resilient power system.
