About the webinar

On 13 May 2026, the LDES Council will host a webinar presenting findings from its new report, “Unlocking the Value of Long Duration Energy Storage in New England: Grid Modelling of Long Duration Storage Use Cases”, developed in collaboration with Telos Energy.

The case for long duration energy storage (LDES) has never been stronger. Grid operators need resources that can store energy across hours, days, and weeks and deliver it when the system is under stress. Policymakers are setting targets, and utilities are developing frameworks to reflect the role of LDES in reliability and affordability.

Yet deployment is not happening at the pace required. Understanding why is one of the most important challenges facing the sector today.

This webinar draws on new modelling using ISO New England’s planning tools to show what LDES delivers in a real power system. The analysis quantifies its contribution across multiple time horizons and value streams, including:

  • reducing the cost of building out the system
  • strengthening resilience during prolonged winter stress events
  • lowering day-to-day operating costs
  • relieving transmission congestion

The findings make a clear case for deployment. They also highlight a critical gap between the value LDES provides to the system and what today’s markets are able to compensate.

Closing this gap is the central challenge of 2026. Join the LDES Council and Telos Energy to explore what these findings mean for procurement design, project finance, and market reform — and what it will take to scale LDES deployment across power systems.
